Introduction

All statistics and data used in the Cambridge Sports Medicine web site is retrieved from a database, developed and maintained within the Cambridge Sports & Exercise Medicine Unit.

The database was originally set up in 1996 to record patient attendances and injuries. Prior to that most data and statistics where done manually.

To date there are 9,000 patient episodes recording a whole range of information such as; primary sport, sport at injury, dexterity, age, gender etc;.

All injuries are coded with a unique system developed in the Unit, this allows the database to expand automatically as different injuries and sports are recorded.

To date we can list almost 400 different injuries with 120 different sports associated with those injuries.

The database is a valuable tool that provides us with a wealth of statistics that allows us to look at the Units performance, give us current insight into injury trends and research etc;
